Key Concept 5:
Online Teaching
5.1 Candidates will be able to develop an online facilitation plan based on best practices of online learning and teaching that demonstrates their ability to teach in the online environment.
In ET 631, we were tasked to work with a partner to create an online facilitation plan where we had to take a unit from the BCPS curriculum and rewrite it so that it incorporated practices of online learning and teaching. We modified eight lessons from the third grade ELA curriculum focusing on famous people and experiences that shaped America. Our online facilitation plan was designed to take place in a blended learning environment, meaning some sessions would be online, while others would take place face-to-face. We organized the content/ activities of each lesson using the R2D2 method, which includes reading/ reviewing the information on a given topic, reflecting on any new learning that occurred, displaying the knowledge that was gained, and doing some kind of summative assessment at the end. We included course objectives for each individual lesson and identified the resources needed to complete each task as well as additional resources that could be used to differentiate the lessons further. Within our plan, we identified and incorporated what we believed were the best practices for online learners at the elementary level.
