Key Concept 13:
Communication Skills
13.1 Candidates will be able to help students use technology tools to collaborate with others inside and outside the classroom.
For this key concept, I chose to spotlight my telecollaborative project, titled "Wild Robots" that I completed with two other classmates. "Wild Robots" is a telecollaborative participation project designed for students in the 9-12 age range. This project requires students to partner with a class from a different area (through the ePals website) and learn about their partner's local environment. In this project, students are provided the opportunity to explore biomimicry and how scientists study animal traits to create an invention or innovation. Students are also required to use their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics) skills to design a robot with a small group and collaborate in order to achieve a particular purpose of their choice that can be useful in their partner's local environment. This project enhances communication and teamwork skills by working in small groups and connecting with other students from their partner class to learn about their local environment.
13.2 Candidates will understand technological tools for collaboration with colleagues and demonstrate the disposition to use technological tools for collaboration in appropriate ways.
In the artifacts listed below, I worked with classmates to complete a variety of assignments. For each project, I collaborated using a Google Doc, which is an online tool. These artifacts show ongoing commitment of using online collaboration tools through the multiple examples provided below. I have used Google Docs to collaborate with teammates for several different projects. By using Google Docs, my teammates and I were able to work remotely and add to the same document. When working synchronously, we were all able to pull up the same document and add to it at the same time. This helped us each have a part in completing the assignments instead of having just one teammate do all the typing.
