Key Concept 9:
Digital Citizenship
9.1 Candidates will be able to model and build a positive school culture that supports the safe, healthy and ethical use of technology.
In third grade, I have provided information to my students regarding digital citizenship. I have provided students with opportunities to use credible and safe online sources to access information, as well as with ways to stay safe when using the internet. When using the internet or other digital tools in my classroom, students are not able to leave a digital footprint for years to come. Students are never asked to provide any identifiable information when using digital tools in my classroom. They are provided with a safe and healthy environment for using technology. Below are a few examples of how I build this positive school culture in my classroom.
The website Kiddle allows my third graders to search safely online for appropriate sources of information. It helps to keep students safe by not bringing up sites that ask for personal information and also provides them with reliable sources. |
Through our BCPS One database, students are able to access the programs below to find safe and credible sources of information. BCPS provides students with a username and password that does not contain identifiable information to use in order to log into each of these sites. At the beginning of each year, I spend time explaining and teaching my students how to access the tools appropriate for our classroom and when they may access them.
